A new ECCA?

Attendance at the ECCA meeting was anemic at best! The audience consisted of the usual crowd of about 20 to 25 (not including the 8 invited city officals an Fenty's detail of ~4). The death knoll for the ECCA has sounded. The fact that Mayor Fenty's appearance did nothing to boost attendace is a clear indication that the ECCA is near EOL.

And here's why: the ECCA stopped being a community civic organization the day LT took over. LT is attempting use the ECCA as a way to bypass ANC2C's role in Shaw by blocking any positive steps forward in our ANC while using the ECCA to push his own agenda.

Last night's ECCA meeting will be my last. I wish I could get a refund on my $5.00 membership fee.

My concerns are as follows:

1) Kevin Chapple was limited to 3 minutes at the beginning of the meeting.

2) Kevin Chapple was not invited to join Ms. Brooks at the head table during the mayor’s speech.

3) LT is trying to involve the ECCA in areas that clearly should be dealt with by elected ANC officials.

4) LT regularly uses DC law as the core of his arguments but never produces any documentation or specific city code to support his claims.

5) The ECCA is not reflective of the entire Shaw community. You can argue against this point, but the fact remains, attendance at ECCA meetings has dwindles downward under LT’s stewardship.

6) The ECCA refuses to share information with the Shaw community…no website, newsletter, or meeting minutes.

7) LT monopolizes every ECCA meeting, selectively choosing members from the crowd that fit into his agenda.

8) I’m tired of listening to LT’s disingenuous rants about how Shaw is dived and how he want’s Shaw to come together has one community.
